2001
Events review - Events grow our garden!
Three major events
and scheduled bus tours brought our enthusiasm for
gardening and building this botanic garden to the public in 2001. Events
included the Home and Garden sale in June; the first annual Tour of
Gardens in July and the second annual Bulb to Blossom sale of flowering
bulbs and perennials in October.
As enthusiasm for
the garden concept spread, area year-round and summer residents organized
a 100-family benefit Home and Garden sale. Fabulous weather, an accessible
site with terrific parking, and contributions of more than 30 tables of
used household goods, furniture, sporting items and perennials combined
for a truly successful fund raiser netting approximately $2,500 toward
the Master Plan.
It is not often that
private citizens will open their own gardens to the
public, but in July 2001, ten private gardens and the Lake Area outdoor
Classroom were highlighted in our first annual Tour of Gardens. Ferried
by a fleet of air conditioned busses, participants were treated to a
variety of small to large, newly established to long term, and formal
to
whimsical gardens. Volunteers pointed out unique features and answered
horticultural questions. This event showcased our commitments to beauty,
education and horticulture as well as contributing nearly $2000 to
building the garden.
Our commitments to
expanding horticulture knowledge and beauty were
jointly met by our second annual Bulb to Blossom sale in October, 2001.
A significantly expanded perennial sale of donated divisions and plants
was a new feature. With double the number of buyers in attendance and
two featured speakers prior to the sale, the event also called attention
to our future garden site upon which it was held. A net of $1600 was
raised towards building the garden.
Here are the events
we have planned for this year!
